Workers of Intermountain Medical Center (USA) used 3D-printed kidney to find disposition of patient cancer more exactly.
Doctors of hospital faced with a difficult case of cancer appearance of patient Linda Green. Hardening was situated very close to arteries and veins of kidney. Surgical operation carried big risks for health of patient.
Advanced technologies helped to overcome cancer
Then physicians decided to use current technologies for more accurate identification of affected tissues. They created three-dimensional model of organ with the help of computer topographer and printed it on 3D printer as a two composite parts. Thereby they defined disposition of tumor more carefully and then began surgery.
Surgery was successfully completed.
Doctor Jay T. Bishoff, who led surgery, says that this surgery is a big step forward to high-tech medicine.
